The 450R is the king of big desert endurance races like Baja and Vegas to Reno....you know, like riding 500- 1000 miles non stop! Seriously, if you aren't on a 450R, you probably won't even finish the race, much less win. That's "reliability"!
As for handling, I wouldn't pick either one for tight, technical, woods trails. I like the R for long screaming fast rides in the open desert, and I like the YFZ for play riding (informal motocross) and freestyle jumping.
