The best thing to do is for you and you father to test ride as many differant bikes as possible and buy the one that YOU like the most. I live in the Charlotte, I have not had a chance to ride CAW yet but am looking forward to checking it out, maybe we can organize a ride sometime.

As gt350tsc said, consider the Polaris Scrambler 500. I've got one along with a Honda Foreman 500 ES. I like both. The Scambler is fast, can jump (but they say only after you get a chain tensioner), etc. It has 4wd if you need it. But, it is nearly as heavy as most utility ATV's and has no low range, so if you go mud-bogging or rock crawling, you will eat up CVT belts. I love the Foreman too. The lower gearing and real tranny are great for the goo, slow stuff, and working. My friend says he feels more stable on the Scrambler, I feel more stable on the Foreman, so it's whatever you are used to. Funny thing is after riding the Foreman, the Scrambler feels small, but a friend that has a 400EX things the Scrambler is big, heavy, and smooth riding. So, it's all relative.
