I am trying to decide between a z-400 and a 400ex, i will be riding mostly trails and open fields and the occasional trip to the dunes. From what i know the ex would be better for the trails but im not quite sure, so could anyone help me out on which one to go with

Both are great bikes. Generally, the Z is slightly better in all areas. If they are the same $$$ then go with the Z. If the $$$ are differnet enough and the budget tight enough then go wth the lower cost bike. Neither one will disappoint.

If that's the only two choices, I pick the Z over the EX, if the the price and condition are similar.

I think the Z-400 over the TRX, especially if you are buying new. The new Z has fuel injection!
