Help Choosing
Okay, now after owning Motocross bikes, Three Wheelers, and for a breif time one ATV I am ready to buy a long lasting permanent machine. I am definatly looking for a lasting machine.
I have narrowed it to two models, the Honda TRX700XX, and a Yamaha Wolverine 450.
I want the Honda for its power and reliability. Although the Wolverine has the Sport look and 4WD.
Now I have read all over to try to figure out which one to get. I can afford to get either one, however I'd hate to het the 700XX and end up wishing I had 4WD, or get the Wolverine and wish I had a bit more oomph.
There are groomed trails around me, but also hilly, muddy terrain.
By asking people on here I don't want a Biased opinion based on the brand. I want reccomendations from experience with one or both of the machines and why or why not I shouldn't or should get it.

If you are pretty experienced, and can handle power, I think you might be disapointed with the Wolverine's power output. It is basically an older Kodiak 450 SRA with sportier plastics, no difflock, and only F,N,R. No low range. Out of those two, the Honda will provide much more fun...however reviews have stated that it doesn't have tons of low end torque, and that low speed crawling type situations means you need to feather the clutch more. But I really am not sure exactly how bad it would be.
I would also take a look at the Renegade 500-800.

I like the Wolverine idea, but they left to much utility in the design, and not enough sport. My buddy has one and it is ok. Got it for his wife who doesn't want to shift, but likes the security of having 4wd.
The XX is a niche machine for those who ride rutted or rocky trails, yet do not need 4wd. There are only a couple of riders in there who have one, so I suggest you search for their posts. One of the magazines said that it a "shame" to make a sport quad that weighs over 500 pounds....and I totally agree! Same goes for the Wolverine and Renegade, for that matter!!!

I would definetly go with the wolverine in your case. The 700 weighs way to much. But if you wanted more speed, go for the Raptor 700.</end quote></div>
Do you realize that a Raptor weighs less than a wolverine by almost 100lbs? If you are referring to the Honda 700 it's dry weight is still like 10lbs less than a wolverine. Also he already chose the raptor so it doesn't matter anyway.

Actually as far as I know, the Honda 700xx is 505lbs CURB...that means full of fuel, liquids, etc. The Wolverine 450 is 516lbs DRY. And of course the Raptor 700 is 396 DRY. Honda 700 might be heavy, but its still much lighter than a Wolverine 450...with MUCH more power.
