Am I Too Big? (Weight)
I am looking to gettting a sprot quad. But one thing that am worried about is that am about 350 Lb. and am worried that a sport quad just can't handle that type of weight. The one quad I was looking at is a 03 400ex. But if I remeber correctly the weight limit is 245ish.
Am I wasting my time looking a sport quads? With my weight will I just destory the engine/supension?

You will certainly have to invest in some aftermarket shocks, that are tuned for your weight. I would suggest you contact WorksPerformance, and see what they can do for you.
As for breaking or straining the frame, shock mounts, etc., anything is possible. I am 200 pounds, and I use to bust out huge air on my 400EX, and everything on it is still just fine.....

Am not looking to do alot of jumping or anything like that...most just messing around on trails and what not... the reason am going with a sport instead of a 4x4 is because all the ppl that I will be riding with have sports and I want something that will keep up with them somewhat...

I agree, I weigh 200 and it does great, my Dad rides an outty 650 and wanted to ride mine, and has a good 150lbs of personality on me. It was quick enough to scare him and he said the suspension never bottomed, he didn't jump at all though. The only thing he commented on was he had to make sure he wasn't sitting to far back, the fourth gear wheelie worried him a bit. He said it was very comfortable though.

Ya those DS 650's are nice...but they are a bit out of my price range..am only looking to spend 3000ish on a quad right now....just one good enough to hold me over till am ready to go out and buy a brend new one later down the road.</end quote></div>
Depending on where you are there are some pretty good deals to be had on DS's. There are 3 of them on my local craigslist from 2500 to 3650 My cousin has an 01 that he's done his services and thats it. Been a very reliable machine, he's had it since it was new.

I didn't ever imagine you were going to be jumping. My point was....that a 200+ pound guy landing from 40 feet in the air is going to be way harder on the quad then a 350 pound guy riding around on the flat ground.
NO MATTER WHAT, YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY NEED AFTERMARKET SPRINGS/SHOCKS, UNLESS YOU WANT TO RIDE AROUND ALL DAY ON BOTTOMED OUT SUSPENSION, WHICH WILL BE PRETTY MISERABLE.

On the DS there is quite a bit of preload adjustment, I have mine adjusted up a touch tight and there is still alot of adjustment left. My dad is around 300 I found out and he never bottomed mine that he knew of. You might talk to some of the other DS riders to find out thier thoughts but this is just my .02.
