I recently sold an atv out of state. I was not aware that I ever had a title for this quad since my x made the purchase. The buyer is now looking for me to produce this title that I don't have. My questions: 1. Is it my responsibility to pay for a lost title, he bought the quad and had it for two weeks prior to asking me about this. 2. How do I get a lost title from IL? 3. Since the buyer is in OH, do I get the title in OH?

 

Seems I had seen another post a while back where someone from Ohio ran into the same issue. Bought a quad without a title, and Ohio would not register it.

I think some states don't require a title for ATV's, but I don't know which ones, or if that's changed.

I have bought both new and used here in Texas, and all but one came with a title.

Honestly not sure how that will work out for either of you. The phrase "buyer beware" comes to mind as they should know any regulations in their state before the purchase. Then again, it's also not something you'd think would happen either.

 

You need to get a duplicate title in IL.

Sign it over and mail to the new owner. He will have to send that title to apply for one in OH.

You should pay for the duplicate (~$30) and he should pay for the new one.
