Default Buying an ATV

I want a sportier ATV, something that 2 people can ride on, 400+ cc's, electric starter, manual or electronic shifting transmission, just for trail riding. What ATV meets my needs/wants?

Ummmmmmmmmm unless I am sorely mistaken there is no "legal" 2up machine that is manual or electronic shifting transmission, just belt driven 2up machines.

There are lots...!

Can Am makes 2-up ATVs, the Can Am Outlander, Polaris has the Sportsman X2, and Arctic Cat has a 2-up.

All the 2up machines are big clunkey utilities....nothing "sporty" about these huge pigs! I would get a side-by-side before I would get one of these, and I would get a Jeep before I got a side-by-side.

I suspect that you mean you are really looking to ride 2up on a machine that is not actually designed for 2up riding?????

Very limited on my expreience here, but my first several rides where on my friends 350 Honda Rancher. My husband & I total about 380 and had no problem riding it together. This had the sportiest feel of all the utility quads I have ridden.

I've done a lot of riding on the AC 2 up machine. It is very sturdy and climbs the hills like nothing, very very smooth, fast enough, but not at all sporty.

Look into the Polaris RZR. It is a 2 seater where you sit side by side and has an 800cc engine. It is the sportiest 2 person machine from the major manufacturers.

I don't understand the side x side craze... it's just like driving a jeep, but smaller. I'd take a two-up ATV anyday!

"Not a manual or electric shift there is not or in the 400ccc range. "

Well he says 400cc +. There is a Can Am Outlander Max 400.

Our Outlander two-up rides very sporty... doesn't feel slow or extremely large.

I was just commenting on the sporty side of things. Very little that is 50" or narrower will have a sporty ride in a 2-up machine. Nice thing about the RZR is that it is not clunky like a typical UTV. Very fast. In the 2-up segment you have the Arctic Cat in a couple of engine sizes, Can-Am in a few sizes, and 2 different Polaris 2-up machines with a variety of engines. The Polaris Sportsman Touring has a very comfortable seat. The Polaris Sportsman X2 has a dump bed that changes to a 2-up seat that is not as comfortable. The range of CCs in all these makers and their machines are from 400cc to 800cc class quads. If you can, try them all out and see which you like best. I opted for the X2 for its versatility and the fact I mostly use it for utility reasons more than a second rider. Hope this helps.

Sporty is as sporty does I guess.

IMHO the Razr is the sportiest of the sxs's. We rode with a group of Razr's several months ago - and they were some really wild riders, generally traveling much faster then we typically go. But, they were new to the area and we knew most of the trails so we rode with them for several hours to show them around. And yes, we played a bit too. If we felt like moving, there was no way a Razr could keep up with either my Outy or my brothers AC 700TRV - just wasn't going to happen.

Most of the big 2ups can be sporty, I'm just not sure if it's fun for the passenger to ride at higher speeds.
