Default buying a kawasaki 4wd

Hi guys, and gals! I am a very noob. I saw I don't know much about atv's but the step son wants this old one. It's a kawasaki 4wd. I asked the guy about it.....from cold, it fired right up and he blasted through his yard with no problems.....from what I could see, it needed tires and paint....it was rusty. I I haven't ridden in over 20 years so I didn't dare ask to ride. What else should I look for...it ran fine, but just looked like hell LOL... I can get the model in a later post.

yes, model and year. if its an automatic, check the belt. and also check the standard stuff such as the oil (level and quality), diffrential oil, bent frame pieces of racks, cracked plastic. this will happen, but if it's extensive then thats not good. what was the machine used for mainly?

Default Thks!

It is an automatic......400 Scrambler 4x4. They guy was in his older 40's I'd say........said he just used it to get around his farm....He wants 1500$ for it....It needs 2 rear tires. paint and a good cleaning and some more paint. The fairing had a small tear in it. Seat was in good shape. YOu can tell he leaves it out in the weather.... What should I offer? 900$ see what he comes back with?

what year? scrambler is polaris, not kawasaki. check the joints for tears along with stated above. i think the 400 is a 2 stroke, but dont quote me on that. good luck!

The Scrambler 400 was a 2 stroke with tons of power. It has a reservoir to put the 2 stroke oil in through an injector. Rear axle is a chain drive. The front tires are typically 1" larger than the rears on these. This has to be retained for the 4wd system to work right. Fun mix of sport and 4wd. Other than the 2 stroke oil reservoir in the front there is no reservoir for engine oil. Hope this helps a little bit. Might try going on the Polaris section with these questions and let people now it is a Polaris Scrambler 400.
