Default Looking for racing fourwheeler

Well I'm in the market for a racing fourwheeler, it needs to be fast, and just fun to drive. But I am 6'4 and 15 so it needs to have some room but I don't wanna have to get a 700 for a first bike. And it needs to be reliable, because this thing will be rode hard(high speeds, bi-cycles, wheelies, etc..) And yes I am an expirenced driver in case y'all were wondering.

High performance = high maintenance.

If you're willing to put in the extra effort, the 450 class would be the way to go.

450 sounds good, and I have ridden those YFZ's and they are really nice, but I have also heard Kawasaki racing bikes are really good too?

Wait. Slow down riders, there are many questions that need to be answered here before we just recommend a yfz. First what type of racing?? Moto cross, cross country, sand drags??? Second do you want 4 stroke, 2 stroke, carburetor, or fuel injected? What do you weigh with all of your gear on?? 130 or 230( makes a big difference. There are many many things to consider before you buy a race quad. Please do not make the yfz misake so many do. It is a good quad but not for everything. We have a yamaha blaster that eats yfz's for lunch in cross country racing. Do your homework!!!!

Not gonna be able to get a FI engine that little. Everything is carb until 400cc

Good luck in your search

HMT, I think the "155ish" was his weight, not the engine size he is looking for.

At 6'-4", and just 15 years of age, you might be 6'-7" or 6'-8" before you wear out that quad. At that height any of the 450cc sport quads are going to feel pretty cramped, ... just something to think about. Make sure you ride them before buying. Too bad they don't build bigger sport quads anymore, like the DS 650. For what its worth, the DS 450 feels more roomy than the YFZ 450.

All of the 450cc sport quads will fit your needs of being fast, and will work well for cross country racing. I'm not buying that a stock Blaster will beat a stock YFZ for cross country racing (with equal riders on each ATV). If you're serious about racing I would rank them: KTM > DS 450 = YFZ 450 > Kawasaski 450 = Suzuki 450 = Polaris 525.

If you want fuel injection you'll need the newer YFZ 450R, or other newer 450cc race quads. The carb on the YFZ 450 works very well though, and is easily dialed in. I think 2009 is the last year of the carburated version. Because of the lousy economy over the last few years you can still find left over brand new YFZ 450s on the showroom floor. I just bought my 15 year old son a brand new 2009 YFZ 450 today, believe it or not. He is 5'-8", and this is his fifth ATV. This will be the third YFZ 450 we've owned and raced. We paid $5500 out the door with tax, license, everything. There is a $1000 rebate on them.

Here is a you tube video of our 15 year old son on his 255cc 50+ HJC built engine getting hole shot (with kick start only) http://m.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&cli...&v=sIKQ3AEAAIs and winning against nothing but 400cc and 450cc bikes. The HP to weight ratio is where it needs to be to win races. 212 for the bike and 130 for the 6'0" rider. these engines that Herr Jugs Racing builds are stupid powerful and can with ease eat yfz's in the woods. Lest see. Again check out Herr Jugs Racing. The man is a genius with 2 strokes. I was a non believer like desertviper until he built our first one.

Nice video HMT; quick reaction time.

Here is a picture of me on my old YFZ 450, getting the holeshot at a Grand Prix race in Nevada.

It was an interesting race. We started after dark and did one lap on a motocross track, then a twenty mile desert loop, then another lap on the motocross track, and then one more twenty mile desert loop. The desert loop was almost entirely frame deep silt, and it was all but impossible to see where you were going with such thick choking dust, at night. The Banshee you see in the background on that start picture is my oldest son, who was 15 years old at the time. We've owned a lot of two stroke dirt bikes, and the Banshee. Everyone these days thinks they need a four stroke though.
