Scrambler is faster. Wolverine is lighter. Scrambler has a chain drive rear while the Woverine has a differential. Both good machines. If you want a third, better option than these two take a look at a Can-Am Renegade 500. Leaves the other two in the dust and has a low range too. Better ground clearance than the others also. My son's gets about 30 mpg when riding at a steady 20-30 mph!!! Great quad. Only thing I think needs improvement is the weak frame. You can get an insert that goes in the Spar boxed frame and it will take care of that issue.

Can you explain to me the differnce between chain drive and differential and which one is better? The Can-am Renegade 500 is about 60 pounds heavier than the Wolverine and Scrambler which is quite a bit. It also costs quite a bit more than the Wolverine and Scrambler.

Had a scrambler new off the floor. one of the fastest 4x4 at the time but I always had to have a riding buddy cause it would take a $h!t on me all the time!!! stayed in the shop more than on th trail. but mine was a 99 maybe now quality has changed

oh yeah differential if taken care of will last a long time. chain and sprockets no matter what still have to be replaced

considering there are no other manufacturers that build a 4 wheel drive system using a chain, there is a reason, the shaft driven is stronger and will last longer. a shaft is built like a 4wd system on a truck, using a solid steel shaft to turn the front wheels. I could imagine a chain stretching, possibly getting broke from a stick or something knocking it off. That would be my luck any way. Probably has never happened, but you never know.

I have a 2008 scrambler 500 H.O. 4x4 right now- it's the wrost atv I've ever ridden.
chassis sucks, loads of steering deflection, hate the seat design. it has some speed and power, but it's so poorly balanced it feels very clumbsy. and it's a really goofy looking atv. I'm thinking of chopping it up to make a buggy- seriously.

hands down wolvy is better- unless you have the money to buy a renegade or an outlander.

I honestly don't understand how polaris could get the sportsman & xp so right... and this scrambler so wrong. It's like they chopped the rear swingarm off an outlaw, and welded it to the front of a sportsman, threw on som ugly cheap plastic and stripped the gage cluster in favor of 3 dummy lights... they used the chain drive & sprockets on the rear ( ) and used a shaft drive up front. (why not use front & read drive shaft ) then decided to give it the least impact protection up front, and two goofy lights that stick way up over the bars. ehh- just my opinion on the scrambler.
If I had spent money buying this atv Id've been pissed-

Chain drive is pretty efficient for delivering power to the rear wheels but requires a lot more maintenance than a differential in the rear like the Wolverine and Renegade have.

Even though the Renegade is about 60 lb. heavier it has a better power to weight ratio than the other quads. Handling is on par with the Wolverine and better than the Scrambler. For the extra money you get a good margin more power, independent rear suspension (easier on your body after long rides), the addition of low range, etc.

I'm really leaning towards the Wolverine.
