Both excellent choices(if you are talking about the 700 Raptor) for a guy your size. The Raptor is just about the perfect all day ride, do anything sport. Comfy suspension, roomy, capable of handling bigger people. For most mere mortals the 700 is a machine you can roll out of the showroom and ride for years without upgrades even(but what fun is that??) Powerband will be mellower, but with a mile wide torque band and plenty on tap to get you in trouble.
On the other hand, if you are even considering hitting up some play mx tracks, doing much jumping, or entering pretty much any type of racing, the KFX is likely the better choice. Maintenance such as valve adjust, air filter cleaning, and oil changes have to be done more frequently. The Kawie is a bit more likely to need a few aftermarket parts to make it comfortable for you. It will reward you with a lighter machine that has better handling. Powerband will be narrower and harder hitting.
Both are about equally fast stock. Both are fun and will make willing partners for your intended use. Both are capable of putting out ridiculous power without sacrificing much in the way of reliability when the time comes.

Your buddy is right, compared to any 450 the Raptor will have a top heavy feel to it. They still handle just fine, much better than the older 660 for sure. I personally prefer the sharper handling of a 450 and more planted feel, but I do crave something like a Rappy in some situations as they are just generally a little easier to live with.

Not sure what quality you are looking to emulate here. You can have the stock shocks revalved/sprung to your weight and riding style. Makes a huge difference when done right. Power wise they get a good boost from a better intake and running the dirtbike cams. Of course at that point you need some sort of efi controller and might as well throw in at least a slip on. At that point it should walk all over a stock YFZ in the power department.

lol, I AM a YFZ guy. And the R model will handle better as it is wider. That doesn't mean the KFX handles poorly by any means. Heck, I rock an old school YFZ with xc arms at 47" wide, and the original 250R stock which I believe is about 45" wide. They both handle just fine.
