Default Polaris predator 500 vs Honda 400ex

Hello,
I'm trading one of my atv s for either a 2005 Polaris predator 500 or a 2000 Honda 400ex
The 400ex is a clean bike with some aftermarket parts like a new piston extended rear axle and exhaust.
The Polaris is newer but it doesn't look as clean but nothing too crazy I can see from the pics it has some aftermarket but I'm not sure what .....
I haven't gone to see either of the bikes in person but I'm very torn between the differences ....
I know the Honda has better reliability and that is very very important to me but it would be nice to have the extra power...... Please I need help .....many input would be greatly appreciated ......
Thanks

Not sure which is better, but many people think the 500 Pred has the same 35hp SOHC motor as the 500 Scrambler and Sportsman but its a 42hp DOHC motor,so its a different motor altogether.

But is it a trustworthy reliable engine? That means a lot to me because this would be new to me I don't have a 4 stroke atv of this magnitude..... And I've never had a Polaris before

I don,t know how reliable the Polaris would be,but eveyones knows the 400EX is very reliable. It would be the safe bet.

Read these "owner" reviewers Vehicle Reviews for 2005 Polaris Predator 500 They do seem to be happy with the 2005 Preditor.

But then again http://www.atvreviewnetwork.com/enth...le.asp?veh=688

The only reason I'm so torn is because the values are different I see so many 400ex for sale from 1100 - 1800 and the Polaris there are only a few and they start at 2000. But I also don want a hot potato...

Does the 05 predator have any known issues? Does the 400ex?

the predator is a taste to be honest. you either love it or hate it. the 400ex is a safe bet but i prefer to take chances. i bought an outlaw in 08 on a impulse and fell in love. people thought i was crazy but it worked out for me. the predator is the same concept. like i said you either love it or hate it. i believe the preddy has a little more pep from the factory. if you get a 400ex then i suggest staying away from the pre 05's. a reverse may not be important to some but it sure does come in handy. sit on both of them first and see which one feels more comfortable. in my experience the feel you get from the first sit down is the most important. if the motor dont suit you then that can be modded.
