Question Advice on buying ATV

We are seniors in AZ looking for an ATV we can mount a blade on to scrape the weeds and smooth the ruts--no heavy snow--just dirt and gravel. Will a 300cc be enough power and do we need 4 wheel drive or will 2 wheel drive do it? Your advice is appreciated.

4wd will offer much more pulling traction. As for 300cc it all depends on gearing. A 300 Suzuki King Quad for instant can out pull much larger ATVs because it has a ultral low range tanny and diff lock. (True AWD).

Get a 4wd with a low range option, but diff lock or a AWD system of some type would also be a help.

I just got a 350 4x4 grizzly and it does not have True 4wd or low range but it does surprise me how it can pull. But if it had both low range and AWD it would be a different animal.

Pretty much what TLC said. The old King Quads had the ultra low but I don't think the new ones do. I'd look at a 500 cc or around there. In low you'll lose traction before you lose grunt from the engine.

If you use a blade, 4 wd is a must. If you are going to be very aggressive (i.e. dig deeply or push large piles) then a larger machine will weigh more to give you more ballast for traction.

Not familiar with your situation, but if you buy tools to drag behind your ATV then a small ATV may work.

One bargain basement quad is the Polaris Sportsman 500. They are probably the best bang for the buck for a basic 4x4 quad.

Another good one for "bang for your buck" is the Suzuki 400 King Quad/ Eiger. No diff lock but they all have a low range. It comes in both foot shift or Belt Automatic.

Its been around for a long tme so there should be alot of nice used ones around which will save you some cash.
