Hi I am 13 years old and I'm looking for a quad. Nothing too expensive maybe $3,000 to $6,000. Nothing too fast either probably a 125. Any suggestions on what I should get? I was thinking of a raptor 125.

 

For that much you can get a Raptor 250 that will give you a lot more usage as you get older. Have you ridden quads in the past? If not, or even if you have, I'd recommend an ATV safety course for starters. 250 is enough to get into trouble if you're not careful. What do your folks think?

 

I have ridden a quad in the past but that was like 2 and a half years ago. I think it was a honda 250

 

If your talking used, that price range covers anything built.

Bang for your buck is the 500KQ or 450 or 550 Grizzly

 

At your age, I had a Qsport 230. Great little quad, but I was looking for more power after a year or two. I have ridden the Raptor 250, and it is an even better machine than the old Suzuki, although very similar. It is a tad small for me at 5'9" but still a ton of fun to ride. The 125 is essentially the same chassis and is a good option. Steer clear of the utes in my opinion. They are all close to twice as heavy as a 125 rap and don't handle anywhere near as well. The CPSC has it so you aren't supposed to ride an atv over 90cc until you are 16. Pretty stupid rule as you can go ride a full size mx bike making 45-50hp, but not a 250 class atv making more like 15hp. Anyways, the utes just aren't practical for a young kid inmost cases.

 

We didn't ask what the conditions of your riding area will be. Sport quads are a lot more fun to throw around than a heavy ute but they do lack if you have deep mud holes or steep hill climbs with large rocks. If you are going to be riding on rough trails go with a small utility quad. If it's mostly open or wooded trails without nasty obstacles you can get by with a sport quad. If the snow gets deep where you are and you are allowed to ride the trail systems in winter you also might want to go with a 4wd.

 

I have read all of these and find them very helpful thanks! I just also want to know if there is a specific brand i should buy that would be good for beginners? Or does it not matter what brand?

 

Most of the major brands have good entry level quads. Just avoid the so-called "clones" from the Chinese unless you want to be constantly wrenching on them.
