What to pay? 06 Polaris Predator 500, needs work
#1
Hello everyone, first time poster here. I'm by no means a forum newb, although. I'm big into car audio, a very active member of stevemeadedesigns and mobileaudioforum, also a few PC gaming forums.
I have a little dilemma although.
I have the opportunity to pick up an 06 Polaris Predator 500 that has some issues. It will start and idle, but it gets really hot really quickly, and white smokes something fierce. The owner doesn't ride it, hasn't since it was "worked on" roughly 2 years ago.
The last things performed on it were a head gasket replacement and valve adjustment. The owner states that the top of the piston looks pitted, and that it it leaks coolant from around the head gasket.
I'm more than equipped to work on it, with a fairly vast collection of tools. I'm just a little curious to what I should pay for it?
It's an 06, had a new clutch 3 years ago, has nice plastics, all factory accessories other than some aftermarket nerf bars. The tires are roughly 3-4 years old aswell but still hold air, supposedly.
I've priced out a wise-co piston/headgasket kit for like $210 for it, and as I said I have the tools and space available to work on it.
Thanks for any and all help,
boom50cal, Josh.

Estimate what you think it may cost in repairs then double or triple it. If it has a new head gasket and it's still burning coolant, could be a warped head or cylinder. It could be a fairly easy repair or it can be a can of worms. This call is up to you,but there might be some around that need far less work and I'd check around before you commit on this one.I've seen a lot of abused Predators among other machines.
