1990 polaris 250 question
#1
im looking at a 1990 polaris 250 4wd for 1000 dollars is there anything i should look for in particular and is it a good 4 wheeler all and all? This would be my first 4 wheeler and im not sure what to look for. Thanks And is this a full size type because im about 6 foot 2. Is there a better option i should be looking at for around 1000 dollars?

Good machines, but probably better options out there in the line of a good condition 4 stroke versus a 2 stroke. I mean this mainly from maintenance and engine longevity. A 25 year old anything though I'd check over carefully and you still can have unseen repairs after you buy it. Condition matter more than years though, but use this as a guide.1990 Polaris Trail Boss (4X4) Standard Equipment, Prices & Specs - NADAguides

Get a 4 stroke, probably going to be hard to find a 4x4 for that price though. Can probably find an older 500 Scrambler 4x4 in the $1200-$1500 price range. A lot more power and the 500 engine is a lot more reliable.

What would be a good price to pay? The guy says he doesnt want to go below 800. I see a scrambler for around 1200. Would that be a better investment in the long run? And parts if i need parts new ones arnt avaliable? Im kind of confused. Thanks

Once you get 10-15 years, let alone 20-25 years on a lot of machines parts start to become NLA especially cosmetic parts first then major parts. Stay with something newer, away from any 2 stroke especially an older Sportsman or Scrambler 400 as they can be money pits if you're not careful. Better off saving up and getting something a little nicer that may not be suck a headache if repairs are needed.

Yeah im going to look for a good 4 stroke. I have only heard bad about 2 strokes. thanks for the replies. I know this is older but is a 1987 honda 250x worth fixing? I have one but it needs a carb a new gas tank and some other small stuff like brakes.

Saw several tanks on ebay, plus other parts. These old Hondas can run for years if taken half way care of. Might be a good route to go and possibly cheaper than buying another used machine.
