Default Buying first used sport atv

Hi , I'm going to buy my first atv on C-list next month. I have a budget of 2,200 and was wondering what is the best sport atv i can get. I'm 6'2 and 225lbs, so I'm not small.. I will be doing mostly trail riding, but there are a lot of wide open places here also, so I will be going wide open also.. I was thinking a 400ex buthe can't find one.. thank u in advance for all the help

400ex would be a good choice, and I can't believe you aren't seeing any. Z400 or her clones, raptor 700 would all be top of my list when searching.

Can I actually get a dependable atv for 2,200 .. I don't want to spend that much and it break down 2 months later.. and I know a rappy 700 is no where near my price range.

Yes and no. I have bought some older Honda sport quads and had less than 2200 into them to get them right. I also do most of the work myself. I see those 400 class machines for less quite a bit. If it has been taken care of, you should be able to make it for that. Especially the 400ex, they were really made with longevity in mind. That would be about the low end of what I would recommend for a guy your size. Good news is they have been solid since the 99 introduction, so plenty of older models out there.

Pretty good. Suzuki placed the z quads to be a step better than the 400ex in a lot of areas. They used the tried and true motor out if the DRZ 400 dirtbike. I think they are a little more likely to have motor issues than a 400ex, but by a small order of magnitude. Plenty of high mileage 400 Suzuki out there still running strong. The plus side is you can drop some money into the z quads and get 450 class performance much more reliably than a 400ex.

Might be able to find a Raptor 660 in the price range you're looking for as well. The 700 is a bit more expensive but the 660's can be had in the $2000 price range. I just looked on my local cl and found 2 of them that price. This one 2002 Raptor 660 $2000 and this one 05 Yamaha raptor 660 special edition. There were a couple for less than that but they needed work. I also found a nice 2007 400ex for $1500 "2007 HONDA TRX 400EX" READY TO GO. Even found one as low as $1000 that was ready to ride. Might be harder to find where you are but around here they are everywhere.

Thanks a lot guys.. yeah the best thing I found was an 04 400ex but they wanted 2,500 ... that seems kinda high for an 04.. the best thing I've found was an 03 z400 for 1,900... I wish I had them in my area, I would buy that 07 400ex in a heartbeat!

400 ex tops out at around 65 mph stock, Z400 and KFX400 have slightly more power so a little faster, just under 70 mph.
