Bought a ATV with no ownership. What I did.
I picked up a 2006 Honda Foreman ES with no ownership. It was nice and clean and the guy I got it from seemed honest (and he was). He told me the history of the ATV and told me it was never registered. OK. I will figure it out. He gave me a 'bill of sale'. I need ownership to put plates and insurance on it as I want to run on trails.
Quick short story: A race track bought up a few ATV's new and mine was 1 of them. They used them to get around the race track for workers. Track was sold off and so did the ATV's. Who's name is it in??? I have no idea. I did a police search and it was not stolen
I go to get a ownership. Here in Ontario, Canada it is "Service Ontario" They said that they can not do it as it was never registered. I guess this means it never had a plate on it. The Honda WAS registered to Honda but not with Service Ontario. I was told I need a lawyer to do a affidavit. I did some looking around and found out a "Notary Public" can do the same thing but less $$$. I basically had to say in a legal form that I don't know where the ownership is (the track sold the ATV) and that I bought it and it is not stolen. I got the Notary guy to draft it up. Cost me $100.00. Took that to Service Ontario and got my ownership. . Honestly not that bad overall. Got my green plate and insurance was only $170.00 per year.
