I may be able to help. I own both. I bought the the first silver grizz to hit my area last september an I have been a huge Yamaha fan for years I have owned 9 different yamaha's to date. It wasn't until reading countless testimonials about the kawi 650 that I bought one to see and compare for myself. I took both bikes out and took a few friends and we did our own comparision test in the ozark mountains and then in the sand dunes of wanoka, drag racing, rock climing, mudding and genneral sport riding. The hands down verdict by all of us was that the testimonials were correct. The best quad was the kawi "hands down" Awsome. I plan to trade or sell the grizz as soon as the 03' p650's are out. The kawi 650 seems to have the quality that I have only seen in the honda's I have had and power like no other. That IRS sure hurts the fun factor and the stability. I highly recomend the Kawi p650. If you want a grizz I would sell you mine for 5800.oo it has 2 years left of warranty and under 20 hrs never wrecked have two sets of tires and wheels , looks like new.

I gave up IRS on my old bike. Thought I'd miss it but really don't, and I do quite a bit of slow technical trail riding.
I think the Prairie 650 has the edge here, and in your case, $500 better.

I had an 01 kodiak...loved it but wanted more umph. so naturally it led me to the new Grizzlies. I rode one and liked it. I also rode a 650 prairie and loved it. needless to say I have a kawie in the garage and love it.

They are both great machines.... you can't go wrong with either. It comes down to personal preferences.

Get the Griz, the kaw's are having rampant belt probs. Who wants to shim, adjust and replace belts all the time? You'll never look at or be aware of the belt on a Yamaha.
