Anyone have any input without any biased information about what is the better all around ATV: the 2002 Sportsman 400 or the 2002 yamaha kodiak 400. Tell me why please. thanks

These machines don't compare well when compared directly against each other. The Sportsman will need fairly frequent greasing, wheras the Warrior is more maint. free.
The Sportsman is more of a heavy-duty utility machine in the 400 class, with about the smoothest sit-down ride out there. It is surprisingly fast for as heavy as it is, and has amazing ground clearance, for great mud and rock-hopping ability.

Conversely, the Kodiak is a lighter, more nimble machine, that rewards a stand-up almost sport type riding stance. Lighter and easier to handle, it is easier to handle in tight trails. Won't tow or haul as much as the Sportsman, and isn't as cushy to ride on, but it isn't any lumberwagon, either. A very capable machine, I don't think it will go through quite as much as a Sportsman, however.

Really, one is not better overall than the other, just better at certain things.

I have been waiting for someone to ask this ever since I bought my Kodiak. I absolutley love my Kodiak. Wouldn't trade my Kodiak for a Sportsman 400 with $1000.

Advantages to Kodiak- ]Awesome power, mono-shock, light-weight, EBS
Advantages to sportsman 400- IRS

I would much rather have the Kodiak than Sportsman 400 due to all of its features. I have been pulling out my friends Rubicon ever since I got it.

I sure like my friends sportsman 500.... and who said anything about a warrior???? The sportsman has really nice suspension but is pretty heavy. Great power for the 500

I've never driven a 400 SP but I will say that I love my Kodiak. I find that the kodiak handles great. I find the excelleration smooth.I don't doubt that the SP drive smoother, because if it anything like my brother-in-laws 500 SP then there is no comparison.
If I had to buy an atv tommorrow, I go with the Kodiak. But remember "Buy what YOU want.", because your the person that has to live with your choice.

I have to go with AtomicAustin on that one, he has had to pull out my Honda a couple of times. Before he had the Kodiak I was pulling out his Polaris.
