new to ATV'in.. which to get?
#12
so i went by the local honda shop today and sat on the 250ex-300ex-400ex
now i know the 400ex is the better of them all.. but up here in AK they are overpriced i think. i know the 250ex was 4200 out the door. and the 300 was 4900. making me believe the 300 would be better suited for me in the price/performance aspect.
going to hit the yamaha dealer after i get off mid shift tonight. thanks for all the info thus far.
btw- when i say "jumping" i dont mean 10ft airs..
and..
im very willing to mod the machine to my needs.. can anyone give me a good URL for honda ex mods.. TIA.

Houdini;
Even with 3, or 4' air, the 400EX will be much better.
Don't cut yourself short on power capabilities with the 300EX if you are a full sized rider. There are a few people who bought a 300EX first, thinking it would be good enough, only to regret not getting the 400EX.
The 300EX is very limited to the amount of power that can be squeezed out of it. The 400EX will give you a more powerful platform to begin with, which, can of course be modified later if needed.
I'm not saying the 300EX is a bad choice, I'm just saying that it is limited in power both in stock form, and after being modified.
Just something to think about.
My suggestion is to RIDE any quad you are thinking about buying FIRST, THEN make your decision.

I'd wait on the Suzuki and let all the other suckers test them and find the bugs. Maybe Suzuki did a really good job and there are none. Who knows. I'm just a loyal Honda owner. Ride both. Also maybe check out the C-Dale. If Honda doesn't make a bigger badder quad soon I might have to check them out. I'm starting to outgrow my 400EX.

Believe me, a lot of us started off saying that. After a while you get used to the power and handling you have and start craving more. You don't need to start off on a LT500, but a 300EX will seem pretty tame after the first few rides. The 400EX is the best aressive/novice bike on the planet.

be sure to go by the Kawasaki dealership and look at a Praire 360.
It had the most comfortable seat of any that I've been on. Also has a true locking front differential.
I have researched and researched and have settled on the 360 or 650. (for sure one 360, just gotta decide what I want for me, which will come to a test drive)
you should be able to get OTD (tax exempt) for 5K even.

CerOf if you test ride the 650 it will be all over with. The 360 weighs about as much as the 650 if I remember right, but with allot less than half the power. If you’re considering the 650, then you must be considering the extra money. So don't make the mistake of trying to save a few bucks, and think that your getting pretty much the same machine. Believe me there is a world of difference.

Do yourself a favor and buy Artic Cat 375 or 400(500if you are doing alot of heavy pulling otherwise a 375 in a auto or a400 in a manuel(don't make 400 in aautomatic) no machine on the market gives you as much for your money as a cat . I am a big guy and my 375 will do 52 with my fat *** on it. If you are running trails then that is allyou need .I have pulled logs with it(get a2500lb warn winch with it's alife saver). I looked for 3 months and it led me to this decision. A friend of mine who did the exact same thing (we didn't talk at all about it ) came up with the exact same decision. Buy a Cat!!!!!
