Hey guys I,m gonna be getting a new atv soon and seem to be drawn to the honda 450s. I just have a few queastions. 1. is the atv stable enough to climb some very steep hills? 2 on the new modles (with traxlock) can you put a diff locker on them and use your 4x4 switch to opperate it? the reson I ask is because I've road my uncles 2000 450 and at slow speeds on the hard stuff when one front wheel would come off the ground I would spen out. Ill also be useing it to haul deer out of steep mountians. would this be the atv for me or does something like the grizz 660 sound better?

When in 4WD you'll get All wheel Breaking, and i think the 450 is the perfect ATV for you. It has incredable torque at low RPM's (sideways mounted motor) The top speed is on the slow side (50mph) but besides that it is a great ATV, for hauling i'd rather a foot shift over an auto, but mabey that's just me.

P.S my brother has a 450S and he's looking at the sp600-700 (not fast enough.

I think the 450S is close in price to something like a griz 660 or a prairie 650. They would offer more HP and the Prairie has an awesome locking diff lever on the bars.

This only applies if you are looking at new. If you are looking used then I would stick with the Honda.

A 450 is $6999 and a grizz 660 is $10 299. The retail prices may be close.................but who pays retail?

In american dollars, the retail of the Prairie or the Griz is $6,999 and the foreman 450s is $6,199. That's pretty close to me.

the grizz 660 might have more hp but would the auto trany offer as much tourqe as the forman? also witch one is more stable with a load on very steep mountians? going back to the auto trany wouldent the belt slip in high water/deep mud??? I did take a sportsman 335 4x4 through floof water over the seat. so I dont know. the deciding factors will probabily be the tourqe and stability..... keep em commin!!!!!!!

The Foreman would be more stable than the Griz due to the suspension differences but, the Prairie would be just as stable. The tranny is probably more reliable in water than an automatic but, I have seen a lot of automatic 4x4s that are used a lot in the mud/water and have had no problems.

What it comes down to is...go ride them all and see which one feels right.

my mint condition 450S has less than 250 miles on it. I will take 4500 no less. It is 2002 Green. Been in deep mud 1 time. Nothing wrong with it except small scratches from branches. It has new 6 ply Titan 489 x/t tires because the stock ones sucked. Just a thought.
