Default Good Quad for 250lb rider

I'm looking for a quad and I want to make sure that I don't regret my decision. Where I ride there is lots of logging roads, some open stretches, and occasionally some sand. I'm unsure if I want (or need) a 4x4, but I know I need enough power to get me around. A lot of the people I ride with are on bikes, but I think I will be able to stay with them on a quad, especially on the technical stuff.

There are so many different kinds you could choose. Make a list of what options you'd like. Sport or utility? Clutch, semi-auto, auto? 2x4 or 4x4? If you could narrow it down to at least 3 makes. I think that you should get what you want and not settle for less. (just so it doesn't put you in debt) Probably you should get at least a 350cc. If you think you'll need 4x4 at all then get it. It would be nice for snow. I'm around 240 lbs. and my Recon gets me there and back. Now I'm thinking about going bigger with a 400 4x4 or faster with a 400 sport. I should have gone bigger from the start.

I think I should get a 4x4 because it would allow for year round riding in some snow and mud. Also I think that most of the new 4x4s will go plenty fast enough for me. There are 3 models I am considering. The Sportsman 600, P650, or Griz 660. Ilike the idea of IFS for long ride comfort, but have read so much good stuff about the P650 that I'm reconsidering. I also think that these 3 will handle any jumps I might want to try (mostly small trail obstacles and crossditches)

I also think that if I get a sport or 2wd I will regret it as soon as the first snow comes, or big mudbog

Out of the three you've listed, I like the Prairie 650 the most. But, I think that the other two would have more ground clearance for rock riding. The prairie is supposed to be sportier than the other 2 and just slightly faster. Just a thought- The 650 Prairie retails for $6999. and the new KFX 700 is supposed to be $6500. This would raise the top speed and cc's for $500. less. If you don't need the racks and 4x4. Crap! I forgot that you wanted a 4x4. My second choice would be the 660 Grizzly. The Sportsman is about 160 lbs. more than the other two.

If you absolutely have to have a 4X4, then I would go with the Prarie650.

With that said, I will tell you that I use my KFX700 as my Trail quad, and it is unbelievable. It has Gobs of Power, is extreemely stable, and you can go almost anywhere. I feel that it is the Best 2WD Trail quad on the market today. Just my oppinion.
