Hi have just purchased a second hand 2007 ds 250 am trying to sort out a electrical fault it starts perfect idles fine but as soon as you try to accelerate it misfires. Have done the carb new plug new cap strangely enough after doing all of that it fired no problem with no misfire turned it on and off a few times restarted it thought i had sorted it started it later... misfire back.Also replaced the battery at the same time.Have put a timing light on and the spark breaks down just after quarter throttle so sure its electrical.Any help would be appreciated thanks.

So the spark plug wire looks good? No arcing off of it?

 

Plug lead looks good will start in the dark and see if a i can see any arcing.Thanks for the reply.

 

Hiya would you know if it has high and low speed coils in the stator it almost feels as if it is hitting a rev limiter.

 

Don't have the manual with me here at work. I know my 06 was a SYM atv that was rebadged as a BRP/ Can Am. May want to look and see if you can find a manual online for it.

 

Hi thanks for the reply did manage to find a manual it is a sym manual seems close to what i have have got all the electrical testing values so will start with them.Does not show a reverse over ride though not sure if that is causing the problem problem.

 

That is tied into the cdi, so could be part of the rev limiter issues you're talking about too.

 

Thanks will test all the values tomorrow and let you know. Unfortunately don't know any one with the same quad otherwise could just swop over the cdi. Thanks for your help much appreciated.

 

Managed to sort out my misfire problem it was the cdi managed to get a new one off a big boy scooter for $25.00 compared to what the agents wanted $260.00 only a 6 pin left off the reverse limiter wire.Thanks to a fellow member on the site who helped me get it sorted
thanks Koos Meyer.Sure way to tell if the cdi is blown look on the back will see a small raised section were it has blown through.
