Default Can am outlander Slow top speed

I bought an 2008 can am outlander with 500 miles on it for $5800. Was this a good buy . Second question . I have 28x12.5x12 outlaws in the rear and my top speed is 55 mph. Is this right. Heard of them doing mid 70's. Is mine messed up or does the tires have the speedo thrower off? Rpm's are under 6k

Put the 25" tires back on and you'll likely get it into the low 60s. Big tires like that without proper clutching kill top speed. Mid 70s is more what the 800 or 1000 Can-Ams are going to get up to not so much the 500.

It is an 800 . Should the tires affect an 800 that much ?

Ok . It traded the laws for some 27" mud lites . Way way more power on bottom end . Still top speed is 55mph. . Hitting rev limit two marks past 6000 . Its an 800r max . Any ideas ? All stock but the tires. Thanks

To my thinking something is going on in the clutching. If you're hitting the rev. limiter and only going 55 it doesn't sound right. I'd also check the belt. A lot of power can be lost to a badly worn belt. Beyond that I'm not much of a mechanic.

Well for starters your speedo is off significantly unless you are reading your speed with gps. Your probably running in the low 60's which is not too far from where you should be with stock clutching and big heavy tires.

any tire size larger than the stock 26" tire will effect the mph reading-

I'm running 30" silverbacks on my outty 800- the fastest I can get to read is about 48mph even though I'm probably going a good 55-65 mph.

the 27" is a good size without having to reclutch.

Any update to this? Maybe try running with a GPS to get your true speed outside of the onboard speedometer.
