Default BMW 650f CDI Box

Someone on this forum gave me directions on how to move a pin, and which one, in the BMW 650f CDI box so that you could use it on the DS650. I'm sorry to say that I lost it and (shame on me), I don't remember who it was. If it was you, would you please re-direct me and I will be eternally (well for quite a while anyway) grateful...Thx...Dean

Default BMW 650f CDI Box

here is some cdi info I have from the board.

its not mine - I just copied it from previous post.

jbt

++++++++++++++++

Nippondenso 071000-0590 is BMW F650

++++++++++++++

Here you go...

RW-cdi...to...Baja-wiring
red......to...red/violet
white....to...black/yellow
orange...to...white/green
black....to...black
blue.....to...black
green.........not used

Not sure if it matters which black wire goes to blue, but mine worked right the first time around.

I pulled the pins out of each connector and then connected the wires together, then heat shrinked each connection, then wrapped with electrical tape, then wrapped the whole mess with electrical tape. It has worked fine for over a year now.

+++++++++++++++++

Ok I finally did it mounted the RWR cdi on my 03' DS. This is what you need to do.

1. Look up battoutahells wiring diagram, its right on.
2. Take the plugs/wires outta the RWR wiring harness/plug and put them back in so that they will match up with the quads wiring harness/plug.
3. Ok deep breath, Take out your Dremel tool and grind/cut the bejesus out of the quads wiring harness/plug so that you can get it to fit inside of the RWR plug.
4. Liberally coat the whole new mess/wiring harness/plug with silicon to seal it up.

This all worked for me and is just and alternative to the cutting and splicing method. I would still like to know what the green wires for? I hope this doesnt void the $700 waranty I bought. I decided not to mess with the RWR harness/plug just in case I needed to send it back.

Here is a link to the BMW F650 site. This is a really good site with lots of answers for DS owners.

why are you selling your 650f cdi? Does that box advance timing on the DS?

I'm selling it because I sold my DS. Am in the middle of a Suzuki LT500R conversion with a 1989 Honda CBR F1 Hurricane motor in it. So little time, SSSOOOO little money. At any rate, I never did get the CDI box installed and couldn't remember who told me how to on this forum. But I think that you only had to move one wire, (black to purple, maybe) I think but don't remember for sure. I believe it changes your power curve slightly. The maker is the same for the BMW and the DS650, or so I have been told. Everything I know is by people who know but I haven't done it myself. Thx for your help and if anyone comes up with the info for the BMW CDI, it would be greatly appreciated. Dean

Slowride...I guess I'm confused. Is the RWR CDI you are talking about the BMW CDI box or is it another manufacturer? I 'm not sure whether we are talking about the same CDI. Thx for the info and let me know if you get the time..Dean
