Best dunes?

I like the Oregon dunes, it's the largest costal dunes in north america. The wind switches constantly and does weird stuff with the sand. We call them "idiot holes". I can sit on the DS and watch the sun set over the pacific. I have been to Glamis, apparently alot when I was a baby. My dad had a Manx buggy for years. He still talks about it. From what I have heard they are trying to close more acreage off to ORVs, that sucks. Big dunes but not near as scenic as Oregons dunes. Jetjock, if you were here at the end of summer the dunes can get fluffy and lose some pitch on the razorbacks. Try it again right at the end of winter, the sand is still firm and it can be very steep.

I think Glamis is one of the best. I has alot of everything and a bar too.
I think the largest coastal dunes in North America are actually in Mexico. They are huge and almost 100% vergin.
The softer, steeper and more technical the better!
It all depends on if you want to shoot up and down the hill as fast as possible or play all around and surf all day.

Have any of you "Old Timers" ever ridden at Kelso Dunes in SoCal?? They were closed years ago because they are "Singing" or "Booming" dunes. They are the tallest dunes in California - 650ft from the base. If so, what was it like?
Actually, Eureka dunes in Death Valley are 680ft tall. How far are these dunes from Dumont? Did they used to be open also? Anybody ride there? They look awesome.

I had heard of the kelso dunes, I think I saw it on a map, and maybe a tv show along time ago.
I have the final and definitive answer to what the best dunes are...............are you ready.............
the best dunes are the ones that you can get to and ride on. I think most people will agree with that. Like I said way back on my first post about this it is widely debated and the all have good and bad points.

Damn, Looks similar to Dumont. What a waste of good Dunes. Just sitting there.
Eureka dunes:
Booming has been reported for the Eureka Dunes in remote Eureka Valley of northeastern Inyo County, California. Highway 168 (Westgard Pass Road) heads northeast from Big Pine in California's scenic Owens Valley. About 6 miles (10 km) from Big Pine, a paved road to Eureka Valley goes to the east and north. The road turns into gravel and winds through Eureka Valley, through the Last Chance Range, and eventually connects with Ubehebe Crater in Death Valley National Monument. A bumpy dirt road at the southeast corner of Eureka Valley leads to the sand dunes. These are the tallest sand dunes in California and the home of the rare Eureka dune grass (Swallenia alexandrae) that grows no where else in the world.
Neither one of these two dune systems will ever be opened to public vehicle use, imo.
