On the pads, I wouldn't take that crap about the metallic content, that's a cop-out that's been used for years when they (mechanics, reps, etc..) want to blow you off on brakes squealing problems. Maybe they did use crappy pads, but don't count on it.

There are hundreds of thousands of cars and trucks on the road today with metallic and semi-metallic brake pads that don't squeal. Heck, I have a '94 Toyota Celica that has em, it has 75k miles on the original pads (with still about 50% of the material left), with never so much as a peep out of them...

They like to blame it on the lack of asbestos in pads nowadays, but in my opinion that's garbage.

BTW... My 250R has semi-metallic pads and does not squeal, I've never had them off of my 400EX, but I'm sure it does as well...

Good luck....

My assumption would be that you are far from an experienced mechanic. In the automotive industry they make several different types of brake pads from organic, to semi-metallic, to metallic. Years ago brake pads were made of asbestos and they did not squeak or squeal due to their chemical properties and semi organic compounds.

Up until several years ago we found out asbestos is lethal and very toxic. Therefore the manufacturing of brake pads has changed incredibly in the past few years. It also is a known fact that organic pads do not squeal as much, but have a shorter life than semi-metallic & metallic pads. It is also known that "lifetime" pads (which contain various metallic compounds) are much harsher on rotors and can cause squealing and squeaking.

Just in case you try and debate this fact….(an example, even you can relate to)

A good example of this would be the difference between Freddie Kruger running his knife edged glove down a metal rail in opposed to a piece of wood. One squeals the other does not. (metallic vs. organic)

Trust in science even if you’re oblivious to it…

Bomber-Sorry to hear your having trouble. I have considered the DS 650 because I'm intrigued by the power and the looks. I have several buddies that have wanted the DS 650 but have waited not wanting to buy the 1st year.

I will say that I bought one of the first 400ex in Aug/Sept of 1998 and have not had any trouble buying the "first year model". After several dune trips and numerous other long rides over the last year and a half, I have only lost 1 screw that worked loose.

I will admit that the Bomb is more powerful and more stylish but I find it amusing that you think Hondas are made "cheaply". Would you not now make the same statement about DS650 after your recent experiences?

Yes, I do make considerably more than minimum wage, so what? You are sounding jealous.

Again, you have to call me names to make yourself feel better.

Yes, I did get my Associates degree at a community college. So what? I didn't want to waste my time at the UW getting a degree that would be outdated before I even got a chance to use it. That's the way it is with computing.

What degree(s) do you have?

Even if I only made $10-15 an hour, I still wouldn't have made a different choice. The difference between the 400EX and the DS in price isn't that much, considering how much they cost in the first place. Sure, it's about 17% more, before dealer prep and taxes. You get better shocks, wheels, tires, a bigger engine and better ergonomics. You get what you pay for.

As far as my long-winded posts, at least I post useful information instead of bashing DS owners and the useless drivel that you do.

Why would you want to buy a DS from "those chicken-sh_t Canadians"? You obviously don't respect them or their country. I didn't know that a couple early production errors constitute a "multitude of problems". About half the problems are with the Ron Wood aftermarket components. I'm sure that Bombardier doesn't miss your money. Keep what you have, if you even own an ATV, that is.

As far as considering you as a fellow ATVman, forget it. Any fellow ATVer of mine at least shows respect for their fellow ATVers.

You know, your life must be pretty pathetic to be in this forum so much, just to bash people. Do you even ride? Or, are you just some teenage punk getting a kick at trying to **** people off?

Get a life,

Nope, I wouldn't say that at all.

You have to remember that this is the first ATV ever made by Bombardier. Honda has been doing it for over twenty years. I also say that they went the cheaper road on the frame, on the front shocks, and possibly spindles and trailing arm.

Look at the DS frame, that is a work of art. Two tubes comprise the main frame, one on each side. It starts at the nerf bar connection, makes a loop to connect the trailing arm and encase the engine and connects back to the nerf bar connection.

No folded, crimped tubing welds like the Honda. It may not have broke yet, but that doesn't mean it's better! You won't find the kind of connections from a 400EX on ANY legal race cage, for any racing organization. Sure, it's not a roll cage, per se, but it still performs the same tasks, with the exception of protection the driver. The 400EX frame is adequate, at best. Heck, it may be good enough, knowing Honda, it probably is. I just don't want to bet my health and wallet on it.

Even with the few problems I have had, jetting and axle retainer, I wouldn't trade it for a 400EX, even if I were to get full trade in value!

If the DS didn't come out, then I would be riding a 400EX or I would still be riding my 350X.

Laters,

Now I feel bad...like I hurt your feelings.

Degrees are my specialty - I have a BS in Computer Science as well as a MS in CS. I am also a MCSE and a CCNA specializing in the Wide Area Network (WAN) arena combining my knowledge of NT, Cisco routers and Telcoms into a successful consulting career. I have one thing to admit though...in all my schooling I have never heard of the word "drivel" you use so eloquently in your previous post.

I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of the Canadians (due to their French affiliations) but I do like the DS. I don't consider myself to be bashing it...I have a genuine curiosity.

Sometimes it is fun (and easy) to get people like you so riled up about a subject.

Sorry, I love you man!

An MCSE in NY? Now that is an odd duck. That is few and far between out there. Dime a dozen over here.

With all of your "qualifications" were do you have the time to post on a forum?

If you like it so much, why do you bash it so hard?

Better yet, don't answer.
