I'm sure we all know what is said about assumptions....

I don't know what raw nerve I touched on, but I do believe your post was a tad un-called for. The internet is a great place to make personal attacks with little need to back them up.

As far as your Freddie Kruger analogy, try turning one of those knife blades on it's side and the squealing will be gone. So much for that analogy. Besides, "metallic" pads are not a big "hunk" of metal glued to a backing and placed against the rotor...

Furthermore, if all metallic pads squealed, do you really think anyone would put up with them, yet alone manufacturers use them on their products? I think not. Please post some reasonable qualifications to dispute my claim that my Toyota Celica (w/75K miles, 4 wheel discs, and original pads) and 250R pads do not squeal...

No one ever questions it when metallic pads don't squeal -- go figure...

Well the way I see it right now I am going to alert the web administrator for this web site on the rude and uncalled for acts of agression against the people posting on this forum. So I will give no warning when I do this. This forum I put up was for people that have a bombardier and not people that own other brand atv's. I will give the people a fair ammount of time to regress there actions and leave if not there accounts will be terminated by the administrator.

How quite ironic you say that...Considering the "all mighty" (NOT) 400EX will soon come out in yellow skins...

Sadly, there are only two ways to stop this. One, ban the obnoxious users from the board. Or two, ignore them completely.

It's obvious there are a small percentage of people in this world that get their rocks off by pissing people off. But think of it this way. A high percentage of those people live in run down, side skirting missing, dog crap filled yard, trailer parks, cannot hold a job nor wish to have one, enjoy collecting unemployment or social security, live their poor, pathetic, and meaningless lives on the internet by either A) pissing people off or B) making sexual advances to some pre-teen (who's actually a 40yr old male pervert) in a chat room.

Or I could be completely wrong. Perhaps their rude, uncouth, ill-mannered, foul-mouthed, angst ridden, backlash on life is due to their lack of testicular fortitude, diminutive manhood, or just simpler yet, Napoleon syndrome?

So cheer up all, it could we worse, we could be like them!

My apologies, I got a tad bit bent out of shape from previous posts (juvetus, daniel, etc.)

I'll simply say this instead. Organic brake pads usually dampen the vibration that causes sound (such as squealing or squeaking). However with a metallic pad there are numerous chemical additives and/or different alloys incorporated into the pad for heat treatment, wear, and so forth. Usually you can find one manufacturer of pad that will always squeal whereas some other brands of metallic pads may not. Also you must take into consideration the material of the rotor. Some rotors are stainless steel others are not.

Again I apologize for the personal attack and I hope someone finds the above information useful.

I'll accept that, in fact, that's pretty much point that I was trying to make. I just have a problem with people just wholesale saying that metallic pads are the reason for a brake squeal. They're generally trying to avoid having to fix the real problem.
