that is just plain scary. It's also a definate reality check that your life can end at any moment at any time even when ur having tons of fun. I'm sure many good things will come from this though...hopefully...

I feel very bad for what happend to those people! But I have very little sympathy for anyone that is STUPID! enough to go out to Glamis in the Summer and try riding. You may as well by a one way ticket straight to the SUN! I am not stiring the pot here either so I don't need any crap from you guy's on this either. I just don't understand how anyone, and I mean Anyone would want to even be outside in those temperatures. I did some work on a VW hot weather testing program back a few years ago. They were testing the effects of extreme heat on some new VW models and I was there Support truck driver. We were in Death Valley at Furnace creek ( both names are EXACTLY what they sound like). It was 127 Degree's outside and the wind was blowing at about 15 to 20 MPH. It literaly felt like someone was pointing a giant hair dryer at me on maximum heat! I had to go outside and fuel there cars up twice that day and it only took me 30 minutes to fill them all and by the time I was done My Ice cold soaked head rag and neckie and shirt were so bone dry that they faded almost completly white by the time we were finished that day. Not to mention they started to tear apart! You couldn't Pay me enough to go out there again! Heat stroke and dehydration would be a terrible way to go.

I read somewhere that she was from Ohio. She probably didn't even know about the dangers. If they had the opportunity, the people she was with should have insisted she not go to the store alone. We just dont know the whole story.

I agree she didn't know. Less your from this area you have no idea what it is like . I live higher up in the mountains in Cottonwood but so far this year we have had a lot of temps well above 100. Made me think of when out even in the truck just riding the fr roads and not bringing any water maps or anything Sometimes I see other trucks then are times bet a few days would pass before anyone came around. Think i'll be checking the gear I have in the ATV and the truck

There are a surprising large number of folks that go to glamis and/or gordons wells during the summer. I have done it a few time myself. The key is to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day. We would normally spend time in the canal during this time, and would ride early morning and late afternoon when the temps are bearable. I would imagine that this woman had a breakdown and could not make it back to camp on her own. Another good reason for always riding with a partner.
About 9 months ago a man and a woman died from exposure at Buttercup (south of Glamis and Gordons) There buggy broke down and they couldn't make the 1.5 mile hike back to camp. They only had one small bottle of water each. And this wasn't during the hottest time of the year!

I feel bad for anyone that died a slow death like that...and for the family for their loss.....
This should be a learning experience and a reminder for everyone.
ATVMX... The last thing we need is more rules. People have to think and not be ****.........
I've lived in Arizona most of my life, we go out all year, even to Glamis in June, July and August. You just have to be prepared. If a desert rat like me went to North Dakota in January I think it would be wise to not wear shorts, sandles and a t-shirt @ -10 Deg f.
Let's educate people and not restrict others......
