zuki 750 - lighter than the DS, and much more power

isn't there a raptor with a r-1 engine running around pismo? i'd think you would want to be in that area, sad to do all that work and lose to a another quad in that arena.

The sprocket side would pose a big problem

Definetly your best bang would be 2000 and up Suzuki GSX-R 750. Here are the specs on the motor :

Displacement : 749cc ( 45.70 cubic inches)
In-Line 4 cylinder, Dual Overhead Cam

Horsepower (crank), stock : 141 @ 12500 RPM
Torque : 83 lb. ft. @ 10500
Bore is 72mm
Stroke is 46mm
Stock Compression is 12.0:1 (Yep, on pump fuel)
Carburation : Electronic Dual-Stage Fuel Injection
4-Valve Head
Liquid Cooled

Mounted to 6-speed transmission with drive on left side.

The motor can rev to 14 000 RPM stock!

The motor itself is very very light and I see no better option for all-out power...The R1 motor has 250cc bigger displacement and puts out 150 HP @ 10000 RPM but quite some more torque at 108 lb. ft @ 8500 RPM, but, it's made by Yamaha . And the Zuki motor is lighter.

The drive being on the left side shouldn't be too much of a problem....

the suzuki 1000 i don't think is worth it....

The 1000 is slightly stronger (19 HP more peak) but it revs considerably less and will cost you lots more than a 750...

Both engines are about the same weight...

I'd say a good Zuki 750 DS could run right next to raptor R-1 no problem....the Zuki 1000 would put you ahead of the R1 though.

You don't need the rev's! Winning a race is about displacement. The more torque you have the better. Torque wins races, not horsepower. Plus The lower revving engine will have much more reliability than a high revving one. the R-1 motor would be perfect I think. It is a little heavy but not to bad. But you want to go with a engine with fuel injection definatley.
