Sandman, I seen the 450 Big slim ran against saturday night, the guy didn't really know what he was doing. He was running a set of Gecko's if that tells you anything. How can they keep selling those things? Knobbys work better in the sand!
I was surprised how much a modified end cap helped, it did however make it very loud. But for $30 bucks(used), it was fun for the weekend. I read in the dunefest rules, participants were allowed 105db.

dune the jetting will really make you smile after doing the raptor, look for some 4mm bolts ss before you do those in there will probably strip getting them out the first time.
dasandbomb yeah i heard you were doing pretty good, sorry i missed seeing that you have been very quietly sneaking up on people, shelley said it took a really good start or she would lose to you. i think the ds drags better on the flats seems everyone we run with had better results this weekend.

duneittilludie, the ds is very easy to jet. sandman showed me once just because i know absolutely nothing about carbs or engines (i'm learning fast) and i have jetted it 3 times since. about a 5 minute job. the hardest thing about it is just getting the screws out initially. i would replace those first time you rejet.
and on the testing of pipes, i have one of those really wide prm grab bars and the guy tested the pipe by holding the end of his line about the furthest he could possibly hold it away from the pipe, on the wrong side of bike, and then tested at idle, so of course i was way under the limit

It is true they didn't check the quads, we drove all weekend with our baffles out on our yamaha YFZ 450's and as long as you had a plate with a number on the front, you were good to go, cause you were in the races.
I think they only checked the ones who were sounding quiet to keep busy, cause ours were 92 DB at about 100 feet.

dad dog you need to bring those sons of yours back down to ride, they were some of the funniest races i had all weekend. plus i want to be there to see the looks of what just happened to the other racers, i'll make a few changes on the ds so they aren't as hard to catch i swear i was behind bye 2 quads before i ever got started and if we didn't run long enough i couldn't chase them down. well it was nice meeting you and your boys and i have to say those were the fastest 450's i've seen.
