Lately my 2001 ds has been very hard to start when cold ,if it starts at all.If I spray gas down the carb it will start but only full throttle and cranking forever.It starts fine when warm.I have had the carb apart a few times now and I don't see anything wrong,cleaned out every jet and passage.Has anyone had or seen this problem?I don't know what else to do except try another carb.

Yes I tried plugs didn't help.

 

Check your valve clearances!

How long has it been since you last checked the valve clearences? I know that when they are out of specs it's real hard to start. Worth a look.

are you using the choke?

 

When my 02' Baja is cold i will take the snorkels from the top of the air box and hold the ends together in my hands. That way no air is hardly getting in.
Otherwise it just cranks and cranks and maybe start. Where im at it is usally high of 50 degrees.

 

My Raptor had similar starting problems. I had the valves adjusted.. starts on the dime now. My DS had a similar problem... and I never really had the valves checked.
