What mod to do?
the bug has hit me and i have to start modding my DS so what to do. I have an exhaust for it, big gun, now i need some more goodies. would the carb be a good mod to go with the pipe? well actually what carb? i've always rode street and dirt bikes and this is my first quad and the very first time i have ever messed with a rotax so i need some good advice. is the muniki 48mm with the accelorator pump activated a good choice? if i spelled it wrong or got the mm wrong just over look that. what about the big gun cdi?

For stock bore, the TM45 is good. You'll need to research the pump activation. If you get the carb from any place other than Ron Wood Racing or its dealers, you'll have the pump set for the Harley Davidson motor, which would be incorrect. If you do get the carb from Ron Wood Racing or its dealers, you'll need to order the pump parts and the mikuni 50 jet for the pump and study up here on how to activate the pump. I am not aware of ANYBODY that is activating the pump as a service anymore.
Another good carb with good reviews is the Lectron 46. No tuning on that to worry about if you know the right guy to buy it from.

i might have some old info but i found on ron woods racing where you can buy the carb and for another $75 they would activate the pump. have they stopped doing this? like i said a'm new to the rotax and need to find out all i can. i wish there was a carb setup like i had on the yz426. it's the same setup on the yfz450. the carb works together with the ignition and gives it a very fast throttle responce, i mean no lag at all. but my dirt bike riding days are gone.

I (like many here) run the TM-45 without the accl. pump. If you don't ride in muddy / wet areas go with the direct mount K&N for about 3HP increase by itself (yes, just the air filter!) Do run an outerware on it and watch the seat, it will most likely rub on the filter.
No, there isn't a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on the carb.
Some guys are running the dual FCR39's which is the same carb I have on my YZ426. The TPS isn't enabled on the DS though. Some people say this is a bit much unless you go big bore. This system would also run with direct mounted air filters.
You may be able to find a slightly used TM-45 from someone looking to go to the FCR's
After this, the high compression piston and cams will give you an increbable increase in power. It is amazing the difference between a stock compression / cam engine and high compression piston / more aggressive cams engine. Seriously, night and day.
As you do things internal to the engine you'll find, it is much less expensive to do it all at once than it is to do it then re-do it for more power, etc.

what about the big gun cdi? is it any good or has anyone tried one. i would like to keep some type of rev limiter because i have a heavy thumb. i also seen an add for a msd ignition with an adjustable rev limiter, anyone else seen this or tried it? i've used msd on my cars for uears and know it works good on them but haven't heard much about them on quads. i think i will stay away from the mukini for a little while, at least until i get some other mods done first. Thanks for all the help evryone! this is a great site with a bunch of outstanding members!
