that stripping thing has come up before and everyone said to replace the nuts, if you can't find the ones with the flange at the bottom you will need a snap-on 17mm thin wall. and 44 is what the manual says but it is odd that you would have to torque to the point of stripping them. the other 4 are 24ft.pounds and the rest are like 89 inch pounds. well there is the chain tensioner and it's like 30 i think ft.lbs.

I don't mean to make you feel bad but today I went and got new shims to adjust the valves, did that, put it together. Then I had to go to work. After I was done with work I started it up. I gotta finish putting it together and I'm riding later this morning...... that sucks that you're have all the trouble. But make sure you're measureing the shims right to get the right size shims from the dealer.. How far off are you? My intakes were just tight so I took the shims out, micced them, and got .006 thinner shims. they were .095 and I got .089 shims today and they're perfect. You wouldn't believe this $hit though! My Bomb dealer is also a Yamaha dealer and I had to pay $10 a piece for genuine Yamaha 6mm shims!!
