Hey everyone! I recently experienced the hesitation problem with my DS. I at first believed the culprit was a jetting problem as did the mechanic at the shop I purchased the DS and work at parttime. We contacted bombardier and found that there was a run of production ds's that had incorrect float levels and a return spring that was too short/too weak. My mechanic checked the float height which was ok but the spring had to be stretched 25 mm. Evidently what was happening was the carb did not completely close coming off of the throttle and causes a slight flooding of the motor which in turn presented as a rich condition which fouled the plugs and caused the hesitation and skipping. Since the fix my DS has been running stronger than it ever has and is flawless now.

Hope this helps some of you out!!!

Thanks for the info. I think the long term solution should be EFI.

I just wish they would come out with an EFI that was in the $500 or less range. That would make it reasonable enough to try it out. Between that, fine tuning my suspension, a Big Gun exhaust, v-paddles and maybe a sprocket, I'd be all set.

I will have to look into the float bowl situation.

Thanks,

Are you saying that you have no hesitation/bog just off idle? If you take off from a stop in first gear and let off the throttle so the engine is idling and the DS is barely moving, then nail the throttle wide open, there is no hesitation or bog at all, compared to if you repeat the same test but from a higher starting RPM/speed like 3000RPM?

scooby,
I had a terrible hesitation with the proceedure you described. This fix came straight from the engineers at bombardier. The only problem I have now is a little skip from 3/4 to full throtle while under real hard accleration and climbing hills. I'm pretty sure this is going to be corrected by changes in jetting. I'm spending this friday morning 7/7 at my dealership to correct this problem. I will be talking to the DS project engineers that morning also. I plan to start racing on 7/30 and have been in touch with the engineers several times and they want to use my machine as kind of a test bike. they have been extremely helpful so far and are determined to correct any problems the ds has.
