stage 2 or tvi 720

mister hp, just curious if you could give me a little insight as to the performance differences between the stock carb, the tm45, and that lectron 46hv you have. i would like to know how much you think was gained just by changing the carb. thanks

Do you think it would be worth having Garey lower the compression to 11.5 so those that need pump gas can still have the kit?
And what about cams? would my A1/A2 cams still be fine with the 720? Just wondering.

I haven't had my 46HV Lectron carb very long. The first weekend end out, the weekend before holloween I ran my against another DS with alba pipe, alba cdi, hi-compression piston, cams, ported, bigger valves & 45mm harley carb. In 300' drags it was who got the hole shot won. Out of 7 races I pulled 3 hole shot & won those three, he pulled 4 hole shots & he won four. Now even if I pulled the hole shot & we run 500' he would pass me but not get me in 300'. Note: track condition was not great, it had rained & was hard to get out of the hole shot. the damp clay @ the start line was like trying to launch off of asphalt, hard to break to tire loose @ the starting line. I'm still running stock gearing with banit rear tires so I need to spend more time getting it dailed in. But was very happy with my investment. stock DS with 46HV lectron, 87 octane, stock cdi, stock pipe with modded end cap (I modded) & stock gearing. I might do better with MR.HP modded end cap. Let me add one more thing, I'm riding with a split on my clutch hand from rehabbing brocken hand & he may not be the best rider from what others said so put two other people on them and it could have go different either way. Just my 2cents worth, take it for what its worth! Oh I forgot about my ported carb intake it make a difference, not ported intake head.

Bigslim,
Buttfungus has dyno sheets posted on his website. There is a horsepower sheet and a seperate torque sheet to keep the lines from being so confusing. The comparison is between a well tuned stock carb and a well tuned 46HV with ported intake and billet end cap. These numbers are not inflated or "fixed". I did the dyno work and tuning myself. I would put the torque curve and overall average horsepower of the 46HV up against the TM45 any time any place. I'm all about performance and if the TM45 were a better carb it would be on my bike.

There is a good question, does anyone have a well tuned TM45 dyno sheet? Or a dyno sheet where the TM45 was the only change from stock? That would make for a good substitute comparision aside from a head-to-head line up.

well this thread has gotten interesting. i'm thinking i'm one of the few that happens to have a stage two and a 720. and this is somewhat my feelings.
1- one if money is of great concern, mainly a 1000 or less call mister hp. it appears he is getting great results by finely tuning the machines, and if you can't do this you could have a 960 and still lose, great place to start.
2- stage two, when we start here you have to ask what is the difference with the stage two and the 720, the difference is a piton that is 5mm bigger, that's it they both can use stock cams or go with after market, so basically the thing you have to look at is how much do you pay to switch the cylinder to 105mm that is the difference. right now the price is 1050 plus 100 to cut the head for the bigger piston. or what ever the price of a pami engine is, seems there 5000, unless your duneme but in that price you get the piston, that is high compression plus the larger stay bolts to hold that compression in a o-ringed cylinder, gaskets, so i'm not the expert here on prices but when i ordered a high compression piston it was about 300, head gasket about 50 stay bolts 50 so there seems to be about 400 that is the same, so it appears there is 750 to get the cylinder switched, by everything i did i would say that is the big difference. i'll let bigslim or the dasandbomb or a few others tell you the speed difference of the 720 vs. the stage two, again it is tuning. and if your looking for a tuner i've talked to mr hp, and i really like his tuning ideas, not that it matters what i like but look at his happy customers and you'll know something is right.
3- 720- this is a engine that will have you nipping at the heals of the really fast quads, fourstrokes that is.
well sorry for the long thread, again i've based this on having both.

I justed had my 720 put in last week. I noticed a big difference over the stage 2. Gary said it should be about 60HP. I will post when back from the dyno this week. I would go right to the 720 if I had to do it over again. I wanted more power the first ride after I got my stage 2 back and that was 48hp. the 720 pulled great and I got 8 bikes on my buddys raptor at the top of the hill. I will post this weekend on numbers and what I think of TVI and the 720. PM me if you want to know about TVI swingarms I will let you in on some things you need to know when installing.
