Default Knocking sound from head!

I am in the process of breaking in my engine after a stage 2 upgrade and after my 3rd 10min riding cycle I hear a knocking sound comming from the head. I reved it up a little and it got faster, All valve clearences were at .009 when I put it back together, could they have changed that quick, Could it be a valve knocking?

I'm going to pull the valve cover off and check the torque on the bolts and the valve clearence to see if maybe something is off. I did change the 8 bolts that hold the cams because a couple of the old ones twisted off when torqueing at only 7 lbs ft.. Luckely they broke where I could get to them and take them out and replace them with no problems, The new bolts may need retorquieng.

if the cam gear is loose be sure to put lock tight on that bolt.

I've had the cam sprockets come loose before. Now every thing is lock tighted and torqued. No more problems.

check the hydraulic cam chain tensioner, it'll make an awful racket if it doesn't expand properly.

I'll be sure to check the chain tensioner, it almost sounds like the chain slapping or the valve knocking, its hard to tell with an engine that is loud to start with, with the cams and exhaust on it.

did you remember to put that plastic slide for the chain back in i've almost forgot that myself. and i've seen a cylinder that has been run without it, made a nice groove wonder where all those metal filings went?

JERFINDS when i went to the stage III i to had that noise. turned out the cam gears were loose. i titened it with red lock-tite and over torqued the bolt but still loosened up. i ended up having it tac welded it in 3 spots to finally fix problem. p.s. this was after having the intake cam explode into a zillion parts and ruin a long distance dune trip.
