yeah no need to be mad, they made a offer you were sharp enough to not take it. but another way to look at is what if you had got a ds for 2000 you'd be happy. well sell that thing out right and you can tell them a little more what you want to pay.

PUSHINTHELIMIT, the key was you were foamin at the mouth for that Raptor and the salesman knew it.
They are taught how to identify people they can push around, and will use whatever tactic required to
line their own pockets. Yeah, it is business, but some are more scrupulous than others.
Sell your DS yourself, walk into the next dealership with CASH in hand like you are just browsing. Look at all different models, don't go straight to the Raptor. Act uninterested. If the salesman starts pushing you to buy, push back and tell him to back off or you are out the door in a flash. They earn their living selling, and to have you walk out without a sale is a blow to their ego as well as their wallets.
Remember the magic words: "Well, that is not exactly what I wanted." Use it on the Raptor.
Cash gets their attention. Be a hard sell. Make them work for the sale. Don't be afraid to take hours to
"make up your mind". If the salesman starts to lose interest in you as a buyer, demand he stay with you.
If he doesn't want to do so, ask for his boss's name.
You will be surprised how well it works.

No I ain't no dealer, but I did work at a car dealership and a Kawa-Zuki dealer when I was a kid.
The later wanted me to be a salesman, so they taught me a few of their tricks. Little did they know I had
no intention of being a salesman, but did like learning their tricks, for future use against them, which I have done ever since. LOL. I get some really good deals because of it.
Like I just bought an '03 Rancher TM for $3350. I knew they wanted to move it fast (they still had 5 in stock), I knew Honda had dropped the MSRP from $4399 to $3699 in the last weeks, and I knew how to bug them till I got my price. I was shooting for $3300, but compromised at $3350.

Here you go everybody, There is a great book out in the world called (Don't get taken every time) Written by a fellow who started washing cars on a lot and ended up owning a chain of dealerships. He tells about every kind of dirty trick salespeople pull in simple easy to understand terms. This should cost about three bucks at any used book store and should save anyone thousands of bucks during their life time. It should be required reading in schools. Pushin, another little nugget is that these guys buy and sell for a living while you will only negotiate a few times in your life, that's why you need any help you can get.

A good piece of info, mystereid. Everyone should read it.
Here is another tip: Don't believe the line "There isn't much mark-up on these, so we can't go much lower than the MSRP. That is pure B.S. I have heard that same line from every motorcycle dealer I ever dealt with. Markup on all motorcycle products is around 20-25%, higher on the high dollar stuff. But the dealer will swear he paid a lot more. I will guarrantee you that Honda dealer still made money on my Rancher even at $3350, or he would never have sold it. With a previous MSRP of $4399, how much $$ would he have made? Too much. You don't really believe a dealer can maintain his fancy building with 20 employees on a $200-300 per unit mark-up, do you? If they show you a "Factory Invoice" that shows he paid $400 less than MSRP, take it will a grain of salt and then spit it back out at him. It ain't true.
And don't do business with dealers who add on huge "Dealer prep" and freight charges. It takes about 1.5 hours to prep an ATV, and "freight" costs around $100-130 per unit, because he is shipping multiple units at one time. In fact he may be getting a whole truck load. I have seen dealers tack on $300 in dealer prep and $200 in freight. That is what the Kawa-Zuki dealer I worked for charged. He was ripping people off. Even more profit for him.
