Default Advance Timing?

Has anyone advanced their timing manually by notching the guide piece on the trigger coil. I was told to do this by someone on the forum with a DS. I have not looked at it yet, but have seen it done on many banshees. How will this affect performance using alky, Im sure it will help, but I already have a graydon CDI, how much more do I have to advance to get optimum performance without det.

Default Advance Timing?

The stock ignition has a total of 26 degree's advance.
You need to know how much your ignitions total advance is. Call Graydon for timing.
93 octane - stock piston 30 trails 33 race
93 octane - 11-1 compression 30 short duration cam 32 long duration cam
Alky would add 2 more degree's
The time to change the advance key is about 2 1/2 hours labor. If you decide to go this route, then call Ron Woods for a key and his advice. Changing the key is not for everyone.
You need tools and know how to fit parts on a taper. Locktite is not a precision tool.

If I was running alky I would sell my present ignition and go with the new MSD.
It offers the ability to tune on the spot and fit your individual application.

Default Advance Timing?

Thanks Oldmanracing, do you know for sure that ron woods sells a timing key, I've never ween them advertised anywhere. I took the cover off tonite and looked it over, it would take some major modifying to advance the timing key because it is already so close to the cover. There is also almost no room on the original key to notch it and advance it so a new key would be necessary. About the MSD, how far can you advance the timing on it and how hard is it to change the settings, would you pick this over the vortex with the different curves.

Do not use that timing key!!!!!!!!! The key doesn't hold up well on the DS. It took out Mario's Crank on one of his DS'S and almost took out mine also. The first time you have a backfire when starting or push starting it a couple of times you are going to shear it. Guranteed!!
