Work out in gym with steroids for 6 months! No compression release. Pull rope out until you feel compression stroke (hardest place to pull), then roll just past compression (where it suddenly gets a little easier to pull), let the rope go back in now, then pull with all of your might. Learned this on the old Honda 3 wheelers- watch out, it can break your wrist!

Yes, key in "on" position, nuetral or park position on the tranny, just like you're going to push the button to start. I'm fairly certain it has a compression release built into the cam, but no external release. I don't remember the old warrior having a compression release, but my memory purges every few years!
