Default Paddles- 20 or 22inch

OK, you convinced me, 22's are the way to go. One last question, 8 or 9 paddle? I'm going to order them on Monday.

Squidward,

Go for 9 paddles. And according to a guy I know who dyno tunes a lot of DSs - with a nearly stock setup you may actually get more HP from putting your airbox lid back on. Did you ever install a larger main jet after you installed the FMF pipe? you may get a little more horsepower by adding a bigger jet as well. Also check your needle - go to the 4th or 5th groove.(the top groove is # 1, and the bottom groove is #5.)

Country I run the 22" 10 paddles and they work great. I didnt get the extremes. The regular are a little lighter and the regular only seem to wear just fine. I had the 8 paddles first and they work good but I love the 10 paddles. I geared down one tooth on the front. I can leave the line in 2nd in deep sand no problem. Rocky mountain has some good deals on them.

Go ahead and order a couple sets of the regular haulers as the paddles will eventaully tear off. OR just get 8 or 9 paddle extremes. The DS is the reason extremes were designed because of the ripping problem. I'd go with 9 paddles on a 2003 or newer you see they redesigned your rear hubs and in 2004 the whole axle assembly for lighter weight. My guess is the newer motors aren't different but these bikes are faster with less reciprocating weight. 22's by the way and Sand Tires Unlimited comp cut are equal to the Skat Traks but cost more$$. Stay away from any sideways or V-paddles if you want to race.

mystereid,

I bought a pair of 21" STU Sand Skate Is with the competition cut. I'm curious to see if your right - do you know anyone with 22" Skat Trak Edge paddles? (Or even some 22" haulers) I'd like to weigh both & see what the results are. I know for sure my STU SSIs are seriously light - I can hold one tire with rim up with a single finger so long as I can balance it.

Blackhawk, I have 22" scat trak extremes and a friend has comp cut 21" STU padla brats mine outweigh his even after he added slime due to some leakage problems. Soory no exact weights. PS scat track will use different carcasses and the weight may not be exactly the same.

Sandman... Where have you been?

Oh, I run the 20" 8 paddle - I've tried the 9's and 10's - it just didn't go as fast - The 22" will give you better hook up, and you'd need at least 9 paddle on those. I didn't like the way my quad sat with the 22" - I felt I lost some manueverability for the trails. Lower in the back than the front is the proper stance for MX. But for drags, bigger in the back is better.
