Default changing needle clip position

i have my stock carb apart and can't get the needle out of that black thingy. i tryed to push the needle out but it doesn't seem to want to go and i don't want to force it. how do i get it out to change the clip position? i have read some old posts i am confused on how to make it richer. i move the clip positon towards the sharp end of the needle or towards the not sharp, rear end?

Stock carb diagram..

Look here, you pull the needle out of the top of the slide. It's held in with a plastic plug/with small o-ring. Use needle nose pliers and gently pull it out. But watch for flying parts! There's a small spring, clip, and small washers so be careful.

A good pair of needle nose pliers are worth their weight in gold for that job.

That little spring is a NIGHTMARE to find in a full garage.

My spring went for a ride too when i first pulled the needle out, good thing the DJ kit gives you a spare.

You're telling me! I lost it the first time I rejetted it over a year ago and didn't even notice I had it missing in my carb untill yesterday when I put my stock needle back in! Boy was I PISSED to find out I been riding it for over a year with the needle bouncing up and down about an 1/8 of an inch. Good thing the DJ kit had an extra spring..... I guess I have ONE good thing to say about the DJ kit.

I got a used DJ kit, and it didn't come with that spring. I was reading through the directions before I put the kit in, and noticed there was supposed to be an extra. I thought to myself, "why on earth do they send an extra when they don't even tell you to replace it?" I got my answer when that little thing came shooting out of there.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to lose that spring, though it sounds like I may be the only one that found it again.

done... finally got that clip off.. my ds came from the dealer in the 4th clip position. i moved it down (towards the sharp end) into the 5th clip position from the top of the needle. to richen the pilot u turn that screw out? i turned out about 4 turns. my quad runs about the same, no significant change in power i noticed and good throttle response. however, my headers still glow red guys but not too bright glow. u can only see at night with your lights off.

javex,

I push the clip off against my finger versus pulling it off. I use hemostats or a screwdriver to push the clip off. I have lost less clips this way.
