It Is Finished- 46hv vs TM45
#26
Well it was a fun learning experience. It was a long day and cold out. I think it averaged about 35 for most of the day ,with a high of 42.
The MrHp out of the box DS tuned carb was an easy bolt on. Jetting was almost perfect out of the box. We never turned a screw on it other than setting the idle. This was done with his intake.
The TM45 box was open at the dyno. Straight out of the box it was way too lean for the air and filter combo. This also was the RWs intake non modified.
THEBOM tuned TM45 and intake was close to the MrHp HV46 and intake. The above 6000 RPM is were the HV46 made the difference.
The 12hp and 12ft torque was across the range to peak power. That's were the 46HV and TM45 total peak was 5HP on top.
The MrHp end cap and the HMF ( Best slip on dynoed to date ) was a draw. They both have very strong points.
We also seen the most power out of the DS snorkel over the on the carb filter. This was a surprise to me !!!
Pictures are up on MrHp web site. Dynos graphs to be posted on there later.
Good meeting AZSand and for the effort to make it to the dyno. It was a good time.
More to come. Full race pipes RWR vers Big Gun. Stock cdi vers RWR cdi.
Thanks

Could you do me a favor and explain what you mean by the filter being on the snorkel, but without the airbox being used. Does that mean you retain the stock snorkel, with just the mounting flange on the front of the airbox, to which the filter is then mounted? Or do you have some other custom set-up that lets you use the snorkel without using the airbox?
I wonder if the filter on the carb set-up made less power because the top half of the filter is right up against the base of the seat, so you are really only drawing air through the sides and bottom half of the filter?
And I would be VERY interested in learning how the RWR pipe does against the Big Gun pipe, because those are the two pipes I am trying to decide between when I purchase a new pipe. Any idea when you plan to do that test?
Thanks.

I have never dynoed a stock bike that made this much power. We even left the snorkel tubes under the tank for a total out of the box effort. Most stockers make 41-43hp. My stock bike made 44hp before I ported the intake and 48hp after. I would say that Bombardier has made the air box-snorkel system more efficient and a ported intake would probably only make about 2hp on this bike. Apparently the ported intake was making a bigger difference on the older less efficient system. The reason I say this is because the lower hp stock bikes also make 51+ hp with the 46HV set up. So the engine set up has to be the same as both make nearly identical hp with the bolt on.
This dyno session also proved that new DS owners should STOP AND THINK before "tuning" their bike, example- removing air lid, changing air filter, changing needles and jets, etc. These bike scream from the factory and the slightest wrong tuning effort can kill 5hp easily!! Bombardier IS the LEAR JET corporation-they know air flow!
Hey AZSAND did you make it home yet.

Outerlimit,
Yes the stock snorkel is retained with the air filter slipped on the end of it. The slip on air filter was turned upside down (it stuck up in the air, seat was left off for quick tuning). The slip on air filter was a total turd as far as making horsepower. It killed every thing we tried it on.

To clarify further the "snorkle" being talked about is the big rubber boot going between the carb and the airbox. Airbox and the two side snorkles are actually removed and then the K&N filter that fits the airbox is used (without the box itself). Hope that clears it up for you.
