head gasket??

my oil level went up after a ride today. also, i smelled burning rad fluid and some steam was coming out my exhaust after i turned off the engine. dropped the oil in my engine and it was milky white. think it is a bad head gasket or base gasket? no water or oil coming out the weep hole. i order a head gasket, base gasket, water pump seals and impeller shaft.

Not base gasket.
Sounds like head gasket if you are getting it in your exhaust. Might as well replace the base gasket since you are doing the head gasket though.
I was getting milky oil too so, I am replacing my oil pump shaft seal. Wanted to get it done this weekend. Other things got in the way.

no water "channels" running through the base gasket? if so, i don't have to buy another gasket. this machine is new, just got off warranty, base gasket should still be good like all other gaskets and seals ..

When my oil went milky it was the seals on the shaft and the shaft itself that had worn out. My coolant level had dropped quite a bit in the resevoir. In the past I had a headgasket leak and in that case I had no oil or coolant mixing just the level in the reservoir over flowed . Not saying it can't happen differently , this was what I experianced with my issues, The bike is now over 4 years old.

javex, that does sound like the head gasket, the water pump seals seem to go slowly and I've never heard of the steamy exhaust except in head gasket cases.
Have you noticed if your fan is still in working order? could it be you overheated?

Ah, yep. . . that makes sense.
In your experience would I see power loss with that?
The 8itch of it all is that my riding area is 4.5 hours away and a weekend trip. If I don't get it fixed by the next trip I may end up with down time while on the next trip
I'll get the water pump seal fixed and try to ride it around a little to see if anything shows up.
Wonder if I pull the valve cover if I can see anything.
Thanks
