Default DS, top clutch disc? why different?

Why does the top friction disc in the clutch go in different groves in the basket? And are the friction discs all the same? They look the same, but only one fits in the top grooves. They all look the same.

1. Why does one get mounted in the other slots?

2. Is there one different friction for this top slot?

3. what is the purpose of the top being located different?

Thanks.

Dave

Ok after reading a past post, the top discs tabs are smaller so only it fits in the different grooves. Also guesses its a wear indicator, so they start slipping before they do real dammage. Sortof force you to fix it rather then drive it to its grave.

Any opinions on that?

Exactly what I would have said - kinda like why breaks make an annoying squeek when the pads go. . . warning to fix the problem rather than drive it until you need to replace the whole set-up.
