Help!! Newbie DS owner.
#1
I've just finished breaking in my new Baja 04 and want to change the engine oil. I removed the dipstick, took out the drain plug and the removed the oil filter. There was some oil that drained out ot the crankcase and from the oil filter. But the thing holds like 3+ quarts of oil and no way did that much drain into my oil pan. There is still oil in the external tank because I can still measure it with the dipstick. My question is about the bleed screw behind the oil filter. The owners manuals shows a pic of it and points to it in the picture, but I couldn't find anywhere in the oil changing procedure what this does. Does this bleed screw come out and is it for draning the external oil tank? I tried taking it out with a fairly big flat head screwdriver but it doesn't want to budge. I don't wanna go torquing on it without knowing what it does. Any help would be appreciated...........Thanks.

After removing the engine drain plug under the bike;
To drain all the oil you need to remove the hose that enters the engine from the oil tank (left side).
You'll spill some oil on the bike but not too much.
I use a funnel to capture most of it.
The bleeder screw behind the oil filter should not need attention on the newer DS models.
The newer, later than 2000 DS's, have a small oil line that comes off the engine supply hose. This line returns to the tank and should bleed any air in the system.
