by far don't just go by just what I say, see if you can do some test riding first. I've had people hate my ds and say there to big and heavy till I let the try it, after they usally say "WOW that thing handles really good" but some still don't like it.
what is going to be you main riding style? trails, pits, racing, etc.?

I would go with the ds also u cant go wrong with it. When u jump it or hit a bump it just feels like u hit a big cotton ball. It is a great and reliable machine because of the rotax motor in it. This is one hell of a motor. With a little mods to it like pipe K&N filter and jets, it will beat a stock banshee with no problem. Good luck on ur choice. Lance

Carlbadmuva,
The DS is fairly large. It can be harder that other ATV's to throw around and doesnt' wheelie as easy as a Rpator, 400 EX, or KFX. If you plan on using it for Trail riding make sure the trails are wide enough. My suggestion is to ride one first. For wide open Spaces the DS is king. Raptor might be your cup of tea though it slides horribly and it is top heavy. If you can try to ride both. I've dusted KXF700's with my Raptor you should have no problem beating him with a Raptor or DS. I agree with you however 400 CCs isn't enough for me as well.
