Yes and no. It depends on the piston weight and the ring package. One I put in weighed more than a stock piston, had valve reliefs so deep it was actually only 10.5:1 and a Chevy V8 ring package - it lost power on the dyno. The other was a lightweight, true compression ratio as advertised, with a special high performance ring package - it gained considerable hp (bottom and top) on the dyno.

I had the RW 12.5:1 installed along with the .425 cam and I picked up about 5-6 quad lenghts in 500' or so. I've got a 16:1 piston sitting here that I'm going to install as soon as I get larger valves and porting done. Hopefully I can pick up another 5-6 quad lengths. Do it, you won't regret it.
