Bombardier is improving the new DSs in many ways. HP doesn't come from weight, but as they modify the air channels, perhaps the intake manifold, who knows what else the change inside of the engine to make it put more power to the ground. There was a Dyno test recently where a brand new out-of-the-crate DS650 made 46HP on a dyno. No matter how much variance there is in a dyno reading, that is a very HIGH reading for a 100% stock ATV!

 

A dyno number is subjective at best.

I have raced several YFZ's. And yes, they are "all that and a bag of chips!". Of course I give up about 125 - 150lbs to just about everyone. My bike with a normal human is dead even until the last 100ft of Comp at Dumont. This is against a piped/filtered/jetted YFZ. I don't mind losing to them, but when a 100lb girl smokes me by about 4 quad lengths..... [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img]

If I were a normal sized human, that or the new TRX would probably be my choice.

I had that happen to me at Dumont and damn it sucked.
I beat this Banshee 4 times in a row with a guy on it, he then got off the quad gave it to the girl that was with him. I lost 4 times to her, just because when we got near the top her light axx body let the Banshee pull a little more then my DS. HEHEHEH it still pixx me off.

 

the 04's are faster. I have seen several of them with my own eyes completely stock hang with stage 1's.

 

But what happens when the pavement turns to dirt? The shee's goin' out into the puckerbrush!!

 

weight makes a big difference and the newer ones are lighter. sucks but that's is how it goes.

 

I think it might be more than just the wieght, Bomb made improvments on Air snorkle,and the CDI/timing to get alittle more Ummph out of the newer DS's. That with the wieght makes for a stronger running quad. IMO

I think next year the new DS's should have a factory 11:5 piston and EFI, with maybe a little more agressive cam(like the BMW)[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

Go 12.5 with a self adjusting CDI so you dont burn your piston on 87 gas! then you still get the punch when you need it. AND a reall EFI system.
